Travel Beauty Essentials

When travelling, particularly if you’re going on a long car, coach or plane journey, you need beauty products which are easy to use on a moving vehicle or confined space and which will pack away neatly and tightly. To avoid liquid restrictions I try and aim to find makeup wipes, over miscellar water for example, and I even managed to find deodorant wipes, instead of the liquid alternative! Another necessity is travel size minis of your favourite beauty products for use once you reach your destination. I’ve made a list of travel beauty essentials, perfect for long journeys, long weekends or your summer holiday. With summer just around the corner it’s important to be prepared. As always, click on the photos to shop!

Halo Deodorant Wipes

These wipes are such an innovative idea which I’ve never come across before. These were perfect when I was on a long coach journey and didn’t want to gas everyone around me with deodorant fumes! They gave me a clean feel with a light, fresh scent, and although I wouldn’t like to use these a permanent alternative to deodorant they work as a short term fix. The packaging is small so it didn’t taken up much space in my carry on bag and easy to re-close to prevent the wipes from drying out.

Garnier Miscellar Wipes

Garnier Miscellar Water is my go to makeup remover when I’m at home, I tend to use the sensitive skin one as it is gentle on skin but removes all of my makeup, even waterproof ones. Makeup wipes don’t tend to work as well as other forms of makeup remover but they’re a lot more practical for travelling as no liquids are involved. However, I was pleasantly surprised by these wipes as they took off my makeup to basically the same standard as the original Miscellar Water and left my face feeling refreshed and clean.

Grab & Go Pocket Tissues

Pocket tissues are a necessity for long journeys as they’ve got so many uses; cleaning up spillages, wiping your nose and even bringing into those dodgy service stations you’re guaranteed to visit along the way. This pack was one of the best I’ve ever seen as it had two little resealable compartments inside which each contain tissues. The tissues themselves were strong and durable; for such a bargain buy I was incredibly impressed!

Grab & Go Hand Cleansing Wipes

Hand wipes are extremely helpful for the same kind of reasons as tissues, it’s always useful to have a wipe on hand to freshen up as you often feel very dirty and groggy after a long journey. These hand wipes were not only very effective but also had a lovely, fresh scent which wasn’t too overpowering on my hands. One thing I hate about hand wipes is when they have an overpowering scent which lingers on my hands for hours, which obviously isn’t nice when you’re eating. These ones however did the job well and the inoffensive scent faded after just the right amount of time.

Travel Size Perfume

Personally, I hate going out without perfume to hand and I don’t see why travelling should change this. Travel size perfumes, containing between 10-30 ml of product are perfect for slipping into your bag as they barely take up any space at all. This one, Perceive by AVON has a deep, musky scent and it’s not too overpowering to spritz on throughout the day.  After a long journey all you crave for is to smell heavenly and this product makes that dream a reality.

Soap & Glory Scrub Of Your Life

I adore Soap & Glory products and the travel friendly mini size makes them perfect for taking on trips. The Scrub Of Your Life is my go to product for incredibly smooth skin and that infamous gorgeous Soap & Glory scent. It contains 50 ml of product so is plane travel friendly as well.

Soap & Glory Clean On Me

Another brilliant Soap & Glory product that I use time and time again is the Clean On Me shower gel; it also has the signature Soap & Glory scent and leaves my skin smelling and feeling great. The same as the body scrub it contains under 100ml of product so is perfectly travel friendly. These small bottles are also perfect for a short trip or long weekend as you don’t need to use much in only a couple of days, there’s no need to use up space in your case for large bottles when you’re only going to use a fraction of them.

Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter

You can see there’s a trend here! This body butter leaves me feeling absolutely delightful, I slather it on after a shower, particularly after shaving, and let it soak into my skin to leave it shiny and smooth. It works to eliminate dry skin which is perfect if you’re in and out of the pool or sea throughout the holiday. Soap & Glory products are perfect for adding a touch of luxury to your holiday routine.

Soap & Glory Loufer

I got a small size loufer in a pack of Soap & Glory and it’s perfect to toss in my case and use when showering on holiday. Although it is so small it definitely gets the job done and means you don’t have to sacrifice your normal shower routine just because you’re away from home!

That concludes my travel beauty essentials; I use these products when I go travelling and I hope they’re just as useful for you.

Makeup Bag Essentials

I’m going to talk you through all of my holy grail beauty products that you’ll always find in my makeup bag from primer to eyeliner. I use makeup on a daily basis whether that for school or going out and I use the majority of these products each and every day.

Before I begin my makeup I always put lip balm on to make sure my lips stay hydrated, my favourite is the Nivea Soft Rosé as it keeps my lips feeling soft but also smells heavenly. The first time I used this I was actually about six years old and I remember being obsessed by this little pink ‘lipstick’ my mom had bought me! Years later who would have known I’d refind it and be unable to live without it. I actually ended up using this particular lip balm again because I’d run out of strawberry Chapstick and couldn’t seem to find it  anywhere, so I decided to revert to this old favourite, and I’m so glad I did. Although I do love Chapstick I feel like the Nivea lip balms are even more hydrating, perfect for healthy lips.

To make sure I have a perfect base for my makeup I use the Barry M Flawless Colour Correcting Primer, it has a green colour to it which is perfect for balancing out redness in the skin, which if you have spot prone skin like me which can often get aggravated, is perfect. I pair this primer with the Maybelline Super Stay foundation, I had been using a different type of this foundation, the Super Stay Better Skin, but after being unable to find this in my local Superdrug or Boots I turned to the original Super Stay formula. It definitely does what it says on the bottle and stays in place all day, the only criticism I have is that it does change colour slightly which can get quite annoying, but the formula is very complimentary so I feel like it will be in my makeup bag for quite a while.

Rimmel’s Stay Matte powder comes everywhere with me (so please ignore the rather battered packaging!) and it has been my favourite powder for as long as I can remember. It blurs all my imperfections whilst adding that little touch of extra coverage that I always look for from my makeup. A definite essential!

My little sister got me a W7 set of a few different palettes for my birthday last year and I’ll be the first to shout its praises as an incredibly affordable yet amazing makeup brand. The Cheeky Trio face palette is my holy grail for everyday bronzer and blusher. I don’t tend to use the highlighter for actual highlighter as I prefer a shimmer highlighter but do occasionally use it as a face powder if I’ve got a little tanned as it is fairly yellow toned. My favourite part of The Cheeky Trio definitely has to be the blusher as its coral colour is just so flattering, I’m in love!

To get that chiselled contour I turn to the Revolution Ultra Contour Palette as I think it offers the perfect contour shade for my skin tone. Makeup Revolution is a brand I’ve been loving ever since it started to appear on the high street and the contour palette is no exception.

My all time favourite highlighter has to be the Pink Lights highlighter from Makeup Revolution, it adds the perfect shimmering touch to my makeup and the colour is just so pretty. I originally got this highlighter in a makeup advent calendar and I’ve loved it ever since.

My current favourite eyeshadow palette (as I’m sure you can tell from the fact that I’ve hit pan!) is The Blushed Nudes palette from Maybelline. The colours suit me, my colouring and the colours of my clothes perfectly. I can make so many everyday makeup looks from this one palette and as it’s very small it’s also very travel friendly.

The two eyeliners I turn to are the Avon Super Extend eyeliner and the Helen E Cosmetics eyeliner in Soft Black. I use the Super Extend liquid eyeliner to create my winged eyeliner as the felt tip pen style is very easy to use to make that perfect flick. I use the Helen E eyeliner to fill in my waterline as it is very soft and pigmented. This combination makes my eyeliner stay on all day and I think it’s great.

I tried out this mascara after seeing it recommended online by beauty bloggers and I’m so glad I did. This mascara shapes, darkens, volumises and lengthens my lashes so that they frame my eyes very well. I’ve been using this mascara for about a year and I love it.

I love lip liner especially as I find it hard to perfectly fill in my lips with lipstick, so lip liner is very useful to give me a guide to stick to. My two favourites have to be the Avon Ultra Glimmerstick which I have in quite a few colours and the Collection lip liner which I also have in multiple colours, but my favourite has to be the Nude Pink shade, it has a slightly terracotta colour to it and I love it.

The finishing touch to any look is, of course, lipstick. Here are my two favourite high end lip products, Midi by Colourpop and Velvet Teddy by MAC. Midi is a gorgeous pink nude shade and its great matte formula could honestly survive anything, I’ll put it on and it is still there hours and hours later. Velvet Teddy is a much more nourishing formula and also a very beautiful colour. It is the classic MAC lipstick to buy and I’m very glad I have it in my collection.

Of course the majority of my lipstick collection is much more affordable and for bargain makeup my two favourites have to be the Collection lipstick in Rose or the Avon lipstick, which I have too many to count! For an everyday look my favourite would have to be Frozen Rose for that subtle pink tint.

That sums up my makeup essentials, I honestly wouldn’t be able to survive without these products in my makeup bag and I’d recommend each and every single one.

What I Learnt At A MAC Masterclass

You can never stop learning new things about makeup as it is an ever expanding art form but I was quite dubious of whether I’d be taught anything brand new and life changing as I walked into a MAC beginners masterclass. I wouldn’t describe myself as a beginner with makeup but the class actually turned out to be a very good experience, I even got chosen to be a model for the makeup artist to work on! So, what did I learn?

1. Stippling brushes should be washed after every use

If you’re anything like me then the thought of washing your brushes after every single use is mind-blowing information. I think everyone admits to putting off washing their makeup brushes, with most people washing them once monthly on average, though it is extremely easy to procrastinate what is actually an essential task. Going round the class it was agreed that monthly was the average so when we were told that brushes, stippling/duo fibre brushes in particular, needed to be washed after every use to work to their full advantage my jaw wasn’t the only one dropping. So, after feeling incredibly shocked and a tad dubious of touching up my powder with what suddenly struck me as a very dirty brush, I made a mental note to get scrubbing!

2. You can make a homemade brush cleaner solution

I’ve discovered that you can make an incredibly effective homemade brush cleaner using things that everyone has in their cupboards. Combining a little Fairy washing up liquid with oil, like olive oil or something similar, makes a very simple brush cleanser. Shampoo can also be used to clean brushes, they are made from hairs after all! In the same way conditioner can actually be used to soften up brushes that have gone a little stiff.

3. MAC Fix + Spray is NOT for fixing!

Surely I’m not the only one who thought that MAC Fix + Spray, which is seemingly a staple piece in every Youtuber’s makeup collection, was a setting spray? A product with ‘fix’ in the title would be enough to make anyone believe that it does just that, fix makeup in place, but that actually isn’t its role. Fix + Spray is actually a hydrating mist for the face designed to put hydration back into dry, worn out skin or to brighten up your face to get a dewy look. It doesn’t make your makeup last any longer so if you’re looking for that then you’re going to have to find an alternative setting spray.

4. You should put the mascara on your bottom lashes first

People with long lashes know the struggle of putting mascara on the top lashes then when you’re looking up to put the bottom lash layer on the mascara goes all over your eyelid. It actually makes much more sense to put the mascara on your bottom lashes first but it had never occurred to me. There’s one makeup struggle solved; no more smudgy black eyelids for me!

5. Store gels on their lid

You should store gels, such as gel eye liners, on their lids so that the oil within the product can flow down to the top of the product. This should help the product to not dry up and therefore last longer saving product and money in the process!

I’d really recommend a MAC masterclass as it was a fun experience with a great group of people; it was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and I learnt lots of new little things about makeup. My sister and I had a great afternoon together and I hope these tips and tricks I pass on to you help you too.
