Frills

Frills are taking a front seat in fashion this season and they’re practically everywhere you look in the shops. Personally, I love them as they look so girly and pretty but I think they can be brought into every single style, whether you’re a fancy girly girl or someone who prefers to dress more casually. I’ve collected together some of my favourite pieces from popular high street stores, just click on the images to shop!

This gorgeous baby blue dress from New Look is effortlessly classy and fits the frill trend perfectly with the ruffles down the front of the bodice. This dress reminds me of gentle waves and the colour itself is so calming, it’s just so pretty! This dress would be perfect for a summer garden party, or maybe even a wedding if you styled it up properly.

This oversized ruffle top from PrettyLittleThing.com, via ASOS, takes the ruffle trend and takes it to the extreme. The wide, ruffled sleeves are eyecatching and the adjustable, tied waist slims down the silhouette of the piece. This would look gorgeous with some slim line trousers or skinny jeans to make sure that this is the main focus of the outfit.

This stunning ruffled dress from Miss Selfridge is a piece I’ve fallen head over heels in love with; I’ve actually recently bought a similar piece in white and I love this style. It is perfect for all sorts of summer events including garden parties or even something like a wedding. The intricate details on this piece make it just that little bit better and it’s so girly and gorgeous, perfect for the ruffles trend.

Ruffles are a trend I can see extending far into the autumn season as it can be incorporated into both light, summery pieces as well as jumpers and heavier dresses. Have you bought any ruffled pieces recently? Tell me in the comments below.

Travel Beauty Essentials

When travelling, particularly if you’re going on a long car, coach or plane journey, you need beauty products which are easy to use on a moving vehicle or confined space and which will pack away neatly and tightly. To avoid liquid restrictions I try and aim to find makeup wipes, over miscellar water for example, and I even managed to find deodorant wipes, instead of the liquid alternative! Another necessity is travel size minis of your favourite beauty products for use once you reach your destination. I’ve made a list of travel beauty essentials, perfect for long journeys, long weekends or your summer holiday. With summer just around the corner it’s important to be prepared. As always, click on the photos to shop!

Halo Deodorant Wipes

These wipes are such an innovative idea which I’ve never come across before. These were perfect when I was on a long coach journey and didn’t want to gas everyone around me with deodorant fumes! They gave me a clean feel with a light, fresh scent, and although I wouldn’t like to use these a permanent alternative to deodorant they work as a short term fix. The packaging is small so it didn’t taken up much space in my carry on bag and easy to re-close to prevent the wipes from drying out.

IMG_5345

Garnier Miscellar Wipes

Garnier Miscellar Water is my go to makeup remover when I’m at home, I tend to use the sensitive skin one as it is gentle on skin but removes all of my makeup, even waterproof ones. Makeup wipes don’t tend to work as well as other forms of makeup remover but they’re a lot more practical for travelling as no liquids are involved. However, I was pleasantly surprised by these wipes as they took off my makeup to basically the same standard as the original Miscellar Water and left my face feeling refreshed and clean.

Grab & Go Pocket Tissues

Pocket tissues are a necessity for long journeys as they’ve got so many uses; cleaning up spillages, wiping your nose and even bringing into those dodgy service stations you’re guaranteed to visit along the way. This pack was one of the best I’ve ever seen as it had two little resealable compartments inside which each contain tissues. The tissues themselves were strong and durable; for such a bargain buy I was incredibly impressed!

IMG_5344

Grab & Go Hand Cleansing Wipes

Hand wipes are extremely helpful for the same kind of reasons as tissues, it’s always useful to have a wipe on hand to freshen up as you often feel very dirty and groggy after a long journey. These hand wipes were not only very effective but also had a lovely, fresh scent which wasn’t too overpowering on my hands. One thing I hate about hand wipes is when they have an overpowering scent which lingers on my hands for hours, which obviously isn’t nice when you’re eating. These ones however did the job well and the inoffensive scent faded after just the right amount of time.

Travel Size Perfume

Personally, I hate going out without perfume to hand and I don’t see why travelling should change this. Travel size perfumes, containing between 10-30 ml of product are perfect for slipping into your bag as they barely take up any space at all. This one, Perceive by AVON has a deep, musky scent and it’s not too overpowering to spritz on throughout the day.  After a long journey all you crave for is to smell heavenly and this product makes that dream a reality.

IMG_5347

Soap & Glory Scrub Of Your Life

I adore Soap & Glory products and the travel friendly mini size makes them perfect for taking on trips. The Scrub Of Your Life is my go to product for incredibly smooth skin and that infamous gorgeous Soap & Glory scent. It contains 50 ml of product so is plane travel friendly as well.

IMG_5336

Soap & Glory Clean On Me

Another brilliant Soap & Glory product that I use time and time again is the Clean On Me shower gel; it also has the signature Soap & Glory scent and leaves my skin smelling and feeling great. The same as the body scrub it contains under 100ml of product so is perfectly travel friendly. These small bottles are also perfect for a short trip or long weekend as you don’t need to use much in only a couple of days, there’s no need to use up space in your case for large bottles when you’re only going to use a fraction of them.

IMG_5343

Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter

You can see there’s a trend here! This body butter leaves me feeling absolutely delightful, I slather it on after a shower, particularly after shaving, and let it soak into my skin to leave it shiny and smooth. It works to eliminate dry skin which is perfect if you’re in and out of the pool or sea throughout the holiday. Soap & Glory products are perfect for adding a touch of luxury to your holiday routine.

IMG_5349

Soap & Glory Loufer

I got a small size loufer in a pack of Soap & Glory and it’s perfect to toss in my case and use when showering on holiday. Although it is so small it definitely gets the job done and means you don’t have to sacrifice your normal shower routine just because you’re away from home!

That concludes my travel beauty essentials; I use these products when I go travelling and I hope they’re just as useful for you.

Why I Want To Work In Fashion

The fashion industry is one of the most creative, exciting and vibrant industries in the world and there really is a job for everyone within it. Personally, I want to go into designing lingerie and swimwear, something which I’ve been passionate about since I was about fifteen. I fell in love with the brand For Love And Lemons and their gorgeous, intricate designs inspired me to begin designing my own.

Lingerie and swimwear is so delicate and close to the skin that it is just so different to any other types of clothes; there’s so much detail in such a small amount of material that it fascinates me. I’m a firm believer in the idea that if you’re wearing good underwear then you’ll feel happier and more confident, there’s something just so mood boosting about wearing fancy underwear. Beauty and confidence truly does start from the bottom layer of your outfit and if you’re wearing gorgeous underwear it will shine out of you.

I love looking at lots of different designers and catwalk collections, with my favourites being Zuhair Murad, Chanel and Elie Saab. The imagination of these designers astounds me and I love delving further into the collection and exploring it like I do in school for my textiles A Level. This allows me to look into the techniques used across the collections, trust me it’s incredible how subtle some of the details are on these pieces.

The fashion industry continues to inspire me day after day and I can’t wait to be a part of it myself, both as a lingerie designer and hopefully a blogger!

Pixi Beauty Wishlist

When people think of popular skincare brands Pixi is a brand that often comes to mind as many of their products are practically staple pieces in lots of beauty blogger and YouTuber’s collections. So, when I thought of doing a blog post on a skincare my first thought was to base it around Pixi. At the minute I don’t own any Pixi products but they’re definitely on my wishlist. I’ve made a list of the products I can’t wait to own. Click on the products to shop!

Glow Tonic

The classic Pixi product to buy is the ever popular Glow Tonic, which exfoliates your skin and leaves you looking healthier and brighter. Glow Tonic, according to other users, leads to clearer skin and as someone who suffers with breakouts this sounds very inviting!

Makeup Fixing Mist

Makeup setting spray is always an amazing investment and this one, which smells of rose water and aloe vera, sounds heavenly. As well as fixing makeup in place the aloe vera in this product nourishes skin and keeps it rejuvenated all day.

Makeup Melting Cleansing Cloth

I don’t tend to use makeup wipes when I’m at home but they’re practically a necessity when travelling so these have to appear on my wishlist. Makeup wipes, in my opinion, never seem to get all of my makeup off but from the reviews on these cleansing cloths they sound a lot better than normal makeup wipes. Also the chamomile in them leaves skin feeling soft and nourished.

Flawless & Poreless Primer

I’m always on the hunt for a great, oil free primer which will moisturise my skin without making it look oily underneath my makeup and this one by Pixi which smoothed skin sounds perfect. It will cover my spots and imperfections whilst stopping me from shining. Unlike most of Pixi’s products this isn’t focused on glowing, dewy skin, which I think suits my skin type much better.

Quick Fix Powder

This translucent powder sounds so weightless and perfecting, plus it has amazing reviews. I’ve been wanting to invest in a translucent powder for some time and this sounds like a great one to buy. Translucent powder is perfect for smoothing and creating an airbrushed effect, a look I’m very into it, but that’s hard to achieve without looking cakey. I have high hopes for this one though!

That concludes my Pixi wishlist, hopefully sometime soon I’ll be able to add all of these products to my beauty collection.

All photos of course belong to Pixi.

Why Is Josie My Style Icon?

Josie, better known as FashionMumblr, is a successful fashion blogger and YouTuber, and one of my biggest inspirations. Both for her sense of style and for the life she has built up through her blog and YouTube channel; someday I hope to be as successful, beautiful and all round inspiring as she is.

Josie’s style is very clean and classy, she often wears white or pastel colours and opts for outfits which cover more, giving her a sophisticated vibe. Her style is so elegant and classy and the white, fresh colour scheme looks pretty, clean and smart. Although I feel I’m a tad too disaster prone to stick to white all the time I have tried to let Josie’s style influence my wardrobe and I’ve invested in more white, flowing pieces.

Not only is her style amazing, Josie’s personality shines through everything she does. She is funny and lovable and not only that she is just so real. She doesn’t cover up parts of her personality to create an ‘Instagram worthy’ life or try and lie to her audience to get more views. One thing I love about watching Josie’s vlogs is that she is always eating and she even joked about it in her latest video about Ibiza, saying that there always seemed to be a portion of chips on her plate. This realistic side of her personality makes her relatable and even more of an inspiration to me.

I’ve included some of my favourite outfit posts of Josie’s from her recent blog posts, of course all photos belong to Josie I’m just using them to show how much I admire her style. The first two photos show white summer dresses, staple pieces in Josie’s wardrobe, as these make up the majority of her summer wardrobe. The delicate lace detail on the second dress is so intricate and pretty, this is a perfect piece for transitioning from day to night as you could wear it with sandals or dress it up with heels.

The second dress, a stunning pink number from True Decadence, is actually one of the dresses I had my eye on for my 18th birthday. When I saw it feature on Josie’s blog I fell even more in love with it and I can honestly say it’s one of the prettiest pieces I’ve ever seen her wear. The next outfit, made up of a pussybow blouse and suedette skirt, is something I would wear on a daily basis as it’s so classy and sophisticated. I’m sure you can clearly see where Josie fits in as my style inspiration.

Josie also includes sleepwear and lingerie on her blog and channel, something which interests me as I want to go into intimate apparel as a job. These gorgeous, silky pyjamas look so luxurious I can’t hide my jealousy. So much of Josie’s wardrobe gives me wardrobe envy, I’m in love with her style! I’m going to create a few more posts centred around Josie as my style icon as she is such an inspiration to me and I’m sure after reading this post you’ve also fallen head over heels for all her amazing pieces.

Fashion Police – Mannequins With Visible Ribs

I couldn’t believe what I saw when I was out shopping the other day, surely I’d been wrong, surely any self respecting shop wouldn’t display mannequins with visible ribs. But no, unfortunately what I saw was very much real and I admit it made me feel a little sick. What was the need for these skeletal mannequins? Tall, stick thin mannequins with almost hollow stomachs and carved out ribs were stood in the shop window displaying the clothes that this shop were selling, half of which were clipped into position as the shop didn’t even sell clothes that small. It made no sense to me, the mannequins definitely didn’t entice me to go into the shop. Instead they left me questioning myself about my own body and what our world has come to.

Size zero is a phenomenon that has hit the fashion world by storm over the past twenty years and has resulted in a multitude of problems across the modelling and fashion industry. Runways are full of skeletal girls battling eating disorders, shops display mannequins with impossibly tiny figures and the media portray this twisted parody of the human body as the epitome of beautiful. I’m not saying that thin women, and people in general, can’t be pretty, of course they can. All shapes and sizes are beautiful, but the problem starts when a particular body type begins to be presented as perfect and every other shape is discouraged.

For most people this stick thin body is an unachievable, unhealthy way to be as the only way to get to this weight would be through starvation or other unhealthy methods. So why are our high street shops displaying these mannequins which 99% of their customers can’t relate to?

In today’s world surely we should be trying to show that every shape is beautiful instead of focusing on a skeleton as our ideal. It’s hard enough to do that ourselves without the shops we visit depressing us even more. In a perfect world there would be a multitude of different shaped mannequins which we could all relate to, thus making us feel more confident, represented and included as we enter the shop.

Unfortunately I couldn’t get a photo of the mannequins in the shop I visited but I have found some photos online of similar mannequins being used in other shops. Of course, the pictures belong to the respective owners.

These mannequins supporting unhealthy bodies need to be stopped, I’m sure you agree. The sooner we promote beauty as being all shapes and sizes, the enter. Remember, we are all beautiful.

This post comes as the first in my new collection of posts, Fashion Police. I’ll focus on problematic areas within the fashion world and the latest news in the industry, I hope you enjoy!

How To Style: White Jeans

White jeans are a necessity in any wardrobe so it may come as a shock when I tell you that I only recently bought my first ever pair. I’ve been searching for years to no avail but I eventually found this pair in Primark for only £9! Although these weren’t in petite sizing,so ended up being a tiny bit long, but I rolled up the ends and I actually really like the look it creates. The high waist elongates my legs and pulls in my stomach, which is always a good thing, right? White jeans are so popular because they’re just so versatile so I’ve decided to show you how to style them up both for a casual day out or a fancier look for the nighttime.

The first look is definitely a more casual, daytime look; I’d wear this out shopping or to hang out with friends. The pink tones are bang on trend and perfect for summer and white jeans are, of course, permanently in style. A t-shirt and jeans is practically the definition of casual dressing but I’d like to think this outfit still remains very girly and feminine due to the detail, and, of course, the pink.

For this outfit I paired the jeans with this light pink lace detailed top from H&M, this top is a perfect casual piece and an absolute steal at only £8.99. They had a rainbow of colours of this top in store when I was there and I definitely recommend picking a few up because they’re so versatile and the  top is so intricately detailed, it’s gorgeous.

Of course, my favourite pink brogues, which I’m sure you’re all sick of by now, have made yet another reappearance. It’s not my fault they go with every outfit I own! They’re almost the exact same shade of pink as my top in this outfit, what a pair!

For a fancier, nighttime look I swapped the t shirt for a wrap-around cropped top; this was only £9.99 from H&M and it is absolutely gorgeous! The colours in it are so vibrant and perfect for the summer time and the cut of the top is just so flattering. It emphasises cleavage and the bow at the back is a really pretty detail.

Heels, for me, are a necessity for a night out and these black stilettos area perfect basic pair that everyone should own. Mine are a couple of years old but there are plenty of alternative options from almost every shop there is! Heels help make the legs look even longer, this outfit is incredibly flattering.

I actually found this bag at a small stall in my local shopping centre so I’m unable to link it but it’s just so gorgeous I had to include it. It’s the perfect size to fit in everything I need, it’s become my new best friend.

Make sure to head over to my YouTube channel to watch the video for these looks!
