Why is Taylor my style icon?

Taylor has such a diverse, yet consistently beautiful, sense of style that I can’t help but fall in love with everything she wears. I’ve been a fan of Taylor and her music since I was very little and she inspires me in so many different ways, not only with her wardrobe. Her style has developed so much over the time she’s been famous that she has practically covered every style I’ve ever been in to and that’s what makes her really original and iconic in my eyes. My favourite era of Taylor Swift fashion was probably around 2012 where her style was extremely classy combined with her statement red lipstick; I feel this connects to my current style as it’s very girly and pretty. I’m going to take you through a brief timeline of Taylor’s fashion throughout her fame to show why I love her so much!

2006

IMG_4296.JPG

When Taylor first got famous her style was extremely ‘countryfied’ with long, flowing dresses and lots and lots of cowboy boots. Although I personally wouldn’t wear a look that’s quite as country as this I do like the flowing material and the bohemian vibes.

2007

Taylor’s style had completely changed by 2007 and was now a lot more princess inspired as seen in the corsets and flowing ballgowns.  This is a very pretty, cute era for Taylor and it suits her young, good girl vibe very well.

2008

Taylor’s style had really changed and matured by the following year. I love the glitz and glamour of the sequinned dress, I actually have a skirt that’s very similar. This look just looks perfect for any party, so dazzling!

2009

This look from 2009 incorporates the tulle, princess vibes from previous years with the glittery, more grown up look of 2008. I think Taylor looks stunning here as the strapless dress combined with the gorgeous up-do creates such a beautiful look.

2010

Taylor’s street style in 2010 still shows remnants of her country style at the start of her career with her knee high boots and bohemian style top. The wide, chiffon top is actually still in style, I’d wear this!

2011

Taylor’s style in 2011 was very cute and girly, similar to my style now. Pretty floral dresses and cardigans were staple pieces in this era of Taylor fashion.

2012

2012 brought the start of the classic red lip Taylor, a very classy, vintage inspired look. This nautical outfit is simply perfect, once again cute little dresses are very apparent in Taylor’s wardrobe.

2013

Her red lipstick continues to be a prominent feature of her look but Tsylor begins to move away from the girly little dresses and opts for the still stylish skinny jeans, brogues and blazer. My style is actually very similar to this at the moment for a casual look.

2014

I love this era of Taylor as she just looks so effortlessly classy in her skirts, blouses and heels. Taylor never seems to have a hair out of place, so naturally beautiful!

2015

How classy does Taylor look here? Her style in 2015 was made up of short dresses and heels, how gorgeous are these heels, I’m in love!

2016

Taylor’s look has completely transformed here into a much cooler, more hipster look with short denim shorts and edgy, cropped hair. Somehow Taylor still manages to pull it off!

2017

Taylor has perfected the monochrome New York street style here and although it’s very far removed from her girly, cute style of years before I love it just as much.

That completes the timeline of Taylor’s style, I love each and every era of her fashion evolution and I think she truly is a style icon.

How To Style: Black Jeans

Black jeans are a staple piece in everyone’s wardrobe and this high waisted pair from New Look have been my go to pair for many years. I struggle to find skinny jeans that are actually skinny enough to fit my legs (small girl problems right there!) but these not only fit my waist perfectly but also actually pull in tight to my ankles; I could hardly believe it when I put them on! Black jeans are so versatile and I believe that the perfect pair can easily transition from day to night.

I decided to put together two different outfits, one a little more for going out on the night time and one for use in the day. Both include this gorgeous baby pink colour which is perfect for the spring time and perfectly fit my girly, classy style.

This outfit is very pretty yet still remains casual. I find it quite hard to find daytime outfits that can look classy without looking too overdressed but I think this outfit captures that vibe perfectly. I paired the black high waisted skinny jeans from New Look with this frilled top from H&M, although it’s long sleeved it’s very thin making it not too heavy for the spring time and still manages to keep you warm on the cooler days (which are quite common in the British spring time!).

I paired these with my favourite shoes at the moment, my little pink brogues from Primark. They finish off every outfit so perfectly I could hardly not use them in this post! I really like this outfit and the little details about it make it just that little bit more special. The frilled edges of the top are just so pretty and feminine, I’m in love.

This outfit is a little bit fancier and with the heels this would be perfect for a night out. I truly believe that jeans can be worn on a night out, as long as they’re styled up correctly. For this outfit I paired the New Look jeans with this frilled blouse from Primark and pink block heels, also from Primark. The heels have come out a lot warmer toned on camera than they are in real life, they’re a lot more pink in person.

This outfit is bang on trend, especially the frills across the front of the blouse which are definitely in fashion right now. Pink is also very in style at the minute as it is spring time and light, pretty colours are back in the shops. The pink themed carried on through to the shoes which I think are absolutely beautiful. The little cross over ankle strap detail is very pretty and delicate which makes the shoes very feminine and dainty looking. The short, block heel is very practical (and much easier to walk in than some of my other skyscraper heels!)

The final touch to each of these outfits was my rose gold Pandora princess ring which is one of my prized possessions, it’s just so beautiful! The pink tones of the ring matches the two outfits perfectly and it is truly the best addition to any outfit to make it fit for a princess.

Learn A Little Bit More About Me!

I realised that you guys don’t know that much about me and as I believe creating a bond with the blogger is an extremely important part of liking a blog I decided to get personal! This post is inspired by the ‘get to know me’ or ‘all about me’ tags I’ve seen across YouTube and Tumblr but I’ve adapted it a little. I hope you feel a little bit more like you know me after reading this, I wish I could make friends with each and every one of you and I hope this post initiates a bond. Hope you enjoy!

What is your name?

My full name is Chloe Margaret Cecilia Grant, but that’s quite a mouthful. Margaret is actually my official middle name whereas Cecilia is my confirmation name (a name given to catholic people when they officially get confirmed into the church), but I prefer Cecilia to Margaret as I think it flows more with Chloe, hence why my blog is called ChloeCeciliaGoesCouture.

How old are you?

As of May 2017 I am 17 and I will be 18 on the 20th of September.

What is your star sign?

You might be able to work it out from what I just said but in case you haven’t, my star sign is Virgo. I kind of fit the stereotype as I do enjoy cleanliness and structure but I’m definitely not as neat and tidy as Virgos are made out to be!

Where are you from?

I’m from Birmingham, England. I’ve lived here since I was born but a lot of my family are Irish, as my Dad grew up in Northern Ireland, so I have strong ties to there too.

What do you study?

I’m currently in sixth form studying three A Levels: fashion, French and English. These have always been my three favourite subjects and studying only them for sixth form has made school so much more enjoyable.

What is your favourite colour?

My favourite colour is blush/dusky rose as I think it’s definitely the best shade of pink, which is in general my favourite colour.

Do you have any siblings?

I have one sister called Sophie who is 14, nearly 15. She’s featured in some of my videos and I’m sure she’ll be in many more. Me and Sophie are extremely close, we are best friends and always have been, I couldn’t wish for a better sister!

What do you want to do in the future?

After school I want to study Body Contour at De Montfort University and become a lingerie and swimwear designer. I also hope that my blog and YouTube channel will become successful and I may be able to do this as a career as well.

What is your favourite food?

I love Skittles more than life (just ask my boyfriend who treats me to a bag nearly every time we go on a date!) but my other favourites have to be ice cream and candy floss. Also, I put mayonnaise on everything, I really believe it is the greatest creation on Earth. Not only is it beyond tasty it also helps cool down spicy food which is something I just really can’t handle; sorry I’m a typical white girl!

Where do you want to live in the future?

I’d love to live on the coastal road from Cannes to Monaco in the south of France as I think this is the most beautiful place on Earth. A mansion with an infinity pool would be the ultimate dream, so here’s to hoping I become successful! At some point in my life I’d also love to live in Paris, it is an absolutely gorgeous city and of course a fashion heaven.

What are some random facts about you?

When asked this question I have a few random facts up my sleeve ready to whip out. I knew all the words to Pure by The Lightning Seeds before I knew the alphabet because my mom used to play it so much when I was little. I’ve performed as a dancing plate in DisneyWorld in a Beauty And The Beast performance. I won a poetry competition across Birmingham when I was 13 and I’ve had lots of poetry published.

What are you afraid of?

I have many random, weird fears such as feet, house fires, spelling tests and Bradley Walsh, you know the guy who hosts The Chase? I can barely touch my own feet and if someone dares touch me with their foot I absolutely freak. My fear of house fires stemmed from studying the Great Fire Of London in Year 2 when I went on to have a reoccurring nightmare for a few years. Spelling tests have always terrified me and throughout primary school I only ever got one spelling wrong and when I did I had a complete break down and had to be escorted out!  And finally, my fear of Bradley Walsh. I’m still not sure where this stemmed from but whenever I look at him I get so scared, I think he was a scary character in a kids TV show I used to watch.

What are your interests?

I’ve been a ballerina since I was 2 but I’m still not very good, I guess I’ll just have to stick to watching Dance Moms and wishing I could do even one turn without falling over let alone twenty plus. I’ve been in the Girlguiding family since I was 5 and now I’m a young leader, I love Guides and all the opportunities it brings me. I have a big obsession with everything Disney, especially Peter Pan, and I’ve always secretly hoped to work at Disneyland as a face character.

I hope this post has let you feel like you know me a bit better and if you have anymore questions just leave them in the comments!

Sheer Clothes

Everywhere you look in the shops currently there are sheer clothes on every single rail! The trend is so pretty and sexy in a tasteful, classy way and it’s a great way to incorporate the underwear as outerwear trend into your look by pairing a sheer top with a bralette. I’ve collected a few of my favourites that I’ve seen on the high street and online which I think really showcase the trend the best.

First up is this gorgeous sheer floral dress from PrettyLittleThing.com, the colours in this are absolutely beautiful. This is the perfect Spring time dress as it’s just so light and pretty. The midi length is an extremely flattering, sexy length and I really like the way the sheer material carries on beyond the pink underdress. So, so pretty!

This sheer, polka dot bardot top is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for the summertime. It looks so light and easy to move in and would look amazing paired with jeans or denim shorts. This looks so clean and relaxed, I absolutely love it! I do really like bardot tops, though they do tend to pop up over my shoulders which can get quite annoying.

This top captures the underwear as outerwear trend perfectly as it showcases any bras or bralettes you put underneath it. The frills are right on trend and this too could be paired with so many things it is extremely versatile and in style. The grey colour has an almost violet tinge and the polka dot detail adds a delicate edge.

This gorgeous, gorgeous dress is perfect if you’re not feeling brave enough to take the sheer clothing trend head on. The delicate, sheer sleeves add a little splash of intricate detail across the top of the dress and the baby blue colour is so pretty and perfect; I think I’ve fallen in love!

I think this small collection of clothes showcases the sheer clothing trend which is just so in right now. Hopefully I’ll be able to pick something up like this to add to my own wardrobe sometime soon.

Primark Haul

image

I’ve put up a video on my YouTube channel showing off all the clothes I got from Primark the last couple of times I’ve been and thought I’d write a blog post to offer a bit more information on what I picked up.

image

Blouse: £6

This gorgeous white sleeveless blouse would look perfect with high waisted shorts or a skirt. The frills down the front are definitely on trend and this creates a perfectly classy, beautiful look. The short sleeves with frilly edge are really feminine and I can think of so many outfits to put this blouse into.

image

Jeans: £9

I’ve been searching for so long for the perfect pair of white jeans that aren’t too see through or wide, particularly round the ankle. This pair from Primark are perfect and their gorgeous high waist is extremely flattering; I’ve never found jeans from Primark that suit me before but these are simply lovely!

image

Trousers: £9

I’m not usually a trousers person I’ve got to admit so I was quite hesitant buying these but I was pleasantly surprised. These really lengthen my leg (which is amazing if you’re only 5’2!) and they look so tailored to be so cheap. I may have actually been converted to the trouser life, can you believe it?

image

Playsuit: £6

This gorgeous light coloured floral playsuit is perfect for the summer time and at only £6 it’s an absolute steal! You could wear this in the daytime or style it up for the nighttime, it’s just so cute.

image

Playsuit: £6

This is another £6 playsuit and it’s just as gorgeous. The Bardot top makes it perfect for summer as it shows off a little skin whilst remaining classy and pretty. The colours in this are so vibrant I think it’s simply beautiful.

image

Pyjamas: £10 set / £5 each

I’m sorry but how adorable is this pyjama set? I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when I saw these, they look such good quality and so, so fancy. The lace trimming and gorgeous, silky material is just perfect and I feel so beautiful wearing them.

Lingerie: £10 set / £5 each

I’m a self confessed lingerieaholic so it came as no surprise that I couldn’t resist buying this gorgeous set. The tan coloured lace is to die for and the intricately detailed racerback left me fangirling (just a tiny, tiny bit I promise). The bottoms are a thong which is always handy when you don’t want any knicker lines to show through if you’re wearing tight clothes; I just love this set! (Head over to my haul video to have a look at this set!)

Brogues: £8

These brogues were mentioned in my April Wishlist and I finally got them! They’re just as beautiful as I’d hoped theyd be and it’s definitely fair to say that I’ve fallen in love. They’re so slim fitting, which is a life saver if you have skinny feet like me, and they look so high end. Perfect shoes for lots of my pretty pink outfits!

What I Learnt At A MAC Masterclass

You can never stop learning new things about makeup as it is an ever expanding art form but I was quite dubious of whether I’d be taught anything brand new and life changing as I walked into a MAC beginners masterclass. I wouldn’t describe myself as a beginner with makeup but the class actually turned out to be a very good experience, I even got chosen to be a model for the makeup artist to work on! So, what did I learn?

1. Stippling brushes should be washed after every use

If you’re anything like me then the thought of washing your brushes after every single use is mind-blowing information. I think everyone admits to putting off washing their makeup brushes, with most people washing them once monthly on average, though it is extremely easy to procrastinate what is actually an essential task. Going round the class it was agreed that monthly was the average so when we were told that brushes, stippling/duo fibre brushes in particular, needed to be washed after every use to work to their full advantage my jaw wasn’t the only one dropping. So, after feeling incredibly shocked and a tad dubious of touching up my powder with what suddenly struck me as a very dirty brush, I made a mental note to get scrubbing!

2. You can make a homemade brush cleaner solution

I’ve discovered that you can make an incredibly effective homemade brush cleaner using things that everyone has in their cupboards. Combining a little Fairy washing up liquid with oil, like olive oil or something similar, makes a very simple brush cleanser. Shampoo can also be used to clean brushes, they are made from hairs after all! In the same way conditioner can actually be used to soften up brushes that have gone a little stiff.

3. MAC Fix + Spray is NOT for fixing!

Surely I’m not the only one who thought that MAC Fix + Spray, which is seemingly a staple piece in every Youtuber’s makeup collection, was a setting spray? A product with ‘fix’ in the title would be enough to make anyone believe that it does just that, fix makeup in place, but that actually isn’t its role. Fix + Spray is actually a hydrating mist for the face designed to put hydration back into dry, worn out skin or to brighten up your face to get a dewy look. It doesn’t make your makeup last any longer so if you’re looking for that then you’re going to have to find an alternative setting spray.

4. You should put the mascara on your bottom lashes first

People with long lashes know the struggle of putting mascara on the top lashes then when you’re looking up to put the bottom lash layer on the mascara goes all over your eyelid. It actually makes much more sense to put the mascara on your bottom lashes first but it had never occurred to me. There’s one makeup struggle solved; no more smudgy black eyelids for me!

5. Store gels on their lid

You should store gels, such as gel eye liners, on their lids so that the oil within the product can flow down to the top of the product. This should help the product to not dry up and therefore last longer saving product and money in the process!

I’d really recommend a MAC masterclass as it was a fun experience with a great group of people; it was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and I learnt lots of new little things about makeup. My sister and I had a great afternoon together and I hope these tips and tricks I pass on to you help you too.

Designer Handbag Wishlist

So, as you can see, this isn’t a wishlist of the month, this is a general wishlist all about designer handbags, because who doesn’t have a secret designer shopping list in their head? Designer handbags are renowned for their quality, establishment in the fashion world and their ability to be timelessly stylish. Unfortunately, they’re also about a million pounds out of my price range which makes actually purchasing one near impossible but a girl can dream. I’ve compiled a list of my top designer handbags that, hopefully far off in my dream world where I’m living in Paris and able to emmerse myself in fashion for a living, will be in my wardrobe.

No designer handbag wishlist would be complete without the classic Chanel bag. The timeless black quilted design and gold chain handle will be in style forever and the bag is just so effortlessly chic that I can’t help but pine for it.

Price: £3840-£4830

This take on the classic Chanel bag comes with the Spring/Summer 2017 collection. Everything about this bag is perfect from the beige, pink colour to the ornate Chanel clasp, the light colour would suit my wardrobe more than the classic black Chanel bag. Help, I think I’ve fallen in love!

Price: £3990

This gorgeous Burberry reversible tote bag is so beautiful, especially in this elderberry colour, but it’s also extremely practical as it has no pockets so it’s great for lots of storage; the perfect shopping bag!

Price: £775

IMG_4460

The Michael Kors Mercer Large Leather Tote bag is beautiful and spacious. It comes in a variety of colours but this light brown, acorn colour is probably my favourite. I feel like this colour would work perfectly in the Autumn time but the bag design is so simple yet amazing that it would work all year round.

Price: £315

No designer handbag wishlist would be complete without the Chloé Drew bag. I just couldn’t choose between these two beautiful colours. The peachy nude colour would fit in more with my wardrobe but I couldn’t help but fall in love with the gorgeous peacock blue.

Price: £1140

That concludes my very concise designer handbag wishlist. I’m sure there are many, many more beautiful bags I’d love to own but these are my ultimate favourites, they’re all beautiful beyond compare and I dream of the day I may own even just one of them.
